Bovey Community Fridge
About us
Bovey Community Fridge has been running since November 2022. We are open 24 hours a day/7 days a week. We are a public space where local organisations and households can make use of perishable food that would otherwise have been wasted and a social space which helps to reduce food waste, share food and raise issues on climate action.
Our aim is to reduce food waste from local producers, retailers and domestic settings and contribute to the reduction of carbon and the negative impact this has on our atmosphere and on global warming.
The fridge and store are at the side of the Methodist Church in Fore Street Bovey Tracey.
What we do
We maintain and monitor a dry store and large larder fridge on a daily basis, we collect food from local retailers and we are a place for local businesses and residents to share good food that otherwise may go to waste .
Part of our project has been to raise awareness. We have worked hard to engage young people and a recent project has involved getting the fridge decorated by the Bovey Youth Café with the help of Exeter Artist ,Steve McCracken and youth worker Angie Blanche.
We have also participated in an evaluation of several community fridges in Devon and have had lots of positive feedback and stories of sharing and people being helped
We aim to continue to work with local retailers to maximise the collection of good food .We will continue to work with younger people and aim to develop links with our primary school. We want to continue to build strong partnerships with other similar projects sharing resources and experiences.
