What we do
Community Action Groups (CAG) Devon is here to support and empower community groups to act towards a more sustainable future.
We provide community groups with a grant to cover insurance costs, we provide guidance, training, and opportunities for networking and sharing skills with other groups.
Our focus is primarily revolved around of waste reduction, composting, sharing, re-use, repair, biodiversity, energy and other sustainability initiatives.
We support groups across all districts in Devon.
Collectively, CAG Devon groups are taking on a range of sustainability activities, including:
- Food surplus food cafés
- Community fridges and larders
- Composting workshops
- Apple days
- Repair cafes
- Clothes swaps, and swaps of just about anything!
- Jumble trails and ‘give or take’ events
- Community gardens/orchards
- Information stations
- Biodiversity and rewilding
- Beach cleans and litter picks
- Craft workshops for making items like reusable shopping bags
Our groups often take part in other activities too, encouraging their communities to move towards a more sustainable future. Activities like tree planting and creating wildflower gardens, cycling activities, renewable energy initiatives, working with their local town or parish councils on sustainability planning, and putting on film screenings, talks or networking events. Some are involved with initiatives like the Transition Network, or Plastic Free Communities.
The majority of our groups are voluntary groups, although some are working towards becoming social enterprises.
The CAG Devon project is managed by Resource Futures and funded by Devon County Council.
