Organising your group

Here you’ll find the guidance and documentation that you’ll need to run your CAG Devon group. You will find our membership agreement, our example constitution, example safeguarding policy and more.

Starting up a new community action group? Find out how to join CAG Devon.

Setting up and running your Group

To help you as you work out how to structure and organise yourselves, define vision, aims, and objectives, write a business/work plan, consider funding options, measure your impact, and more, we have teamed up with award-winning social enterprise Iridescent Ideas to bring you an array of bite-sized resources. As a CAG Devon member, you can access these resources for free here.

Insurance and Risk Assessments

As CAG Devon group members your activities/events must be covered by public and product liability, and have up-to-date risk assessments in place. CAG Devon can provide a grant for new groups who require support with their first years insurance payment.

To help with your risk assessments and insurance, we strongly suggest you make use of the following resources:

  • CAG Devon Risk Assessment Templates and Guidance – covering nearly every activity that CAG Devon groups undertake plus guidance on how to put your risk assessment together.
  • CAG Devon Insurance Guide – guidance on what insurance cover you need, where to find insurance providers and what to expect when getting quotes.

CAG Devon Small Grants Scheme

CAG Devon has a small grants scheme available which periodically opens for applications from fully-signed up members of the network.  You can read more about it here and if an eligible group, apply here. Grants of up to £300 are available to further CAG Devon groups’ work around re-use, repair, waste reduction, sharing/borrowing, surplus food, composting, nature, biodiversity, sustainability and energy.

For the current round of funding apply by midnight on 27th February 2025.

If you are applying for a small grant on behalf of a group in the East Devon District please complete this application form instead. Please note this is a separate rolling programme starting February 2025 and ending on the 31st August 2025. Decisions will be made each month and groups will be notified at the end of each month.
