SusBishop crowned Teignbridge Green Champions

Monday, 1 February 2021/CAG Devon updates, Group blog, Impact, News, Plastic reduction, Repair, Sustainable Bishop, Waste and recycling/Helen Vines

At Teignbridge District Council’s recent Sports and Community Awards, CAG Devon group Sustainable Bishop were delighted to be announced winners of the Green Champions category.

Kate Yeo, Chair of Sustainable Bishop commented: “Our nomination for Teignbridge Green Champions came as a bit of a surprise…. and winning the community group category was even more surprising as we were up against some tough competition. The Awards event would normally have been a black tie affair and then of course, eventually became virtual. No drinkies, no dressing up, no actual award so how on earth could we show off our success? Putting this video together took time and self education but it reminds us what we had achieved and was immensely uplifting and rewarding.

Throughout this strange time, we have of course missed our community events but happily not community spirit. Throughout 2020, we managed to make face coverings from waste fabric, continued litter picking individually, started our Hedgehog group, planted trees and tended the community garden in addition to attending zooms, petitioning etc. For 2021, we really hope to get our Plastic Free Bishopsteignton accreditation and the response to starting the Wildlife Warden Scheme indicates we will be getting that off the ground too. We are also looking forward to getting visible at the Bishopsteignton Festival in September, where we always attract new supporters  … crikey seems we need to start working …..” #onamission
