CAG Devon Members Helping Tackle E-Waste and Digital Poverty

CAG Devon members are helping to make it easier for communities across Devon to give unwanted tech a second life, with several groups now hosting Tech Drop-Off Points.

Fixy, our sister project within Resource Futures’ Communities workstream, is a brilliant South West initiative that collects and refurbishes unwanted smart tech. The project is currently rolling out 40 new secure small-electrical recycling drop-off points across libraries and community spaces in Somerset, Devon, North Somerset and Dorset, making it easier for communities to donate or recycle unwanted electricals responsibly.

Following a well-attended information event hosted by CAG Devon and Somerset in January, a number of community organisations and libraries have now joined the scheme, making it easier than ever for local people to donate unwanted smart tech for reuse and recycling.

Fixy collects unwanted devices such as phones, tablets, laptops and digital cameras, ensuring they are securely data-wiped before being refurbished and redistributed to people experiencing digital poverty wherever possible. By keeping valuable materials in use for longer, the project helps tackle both e-waste and digital exclusion. Devices that cannot be reused are responsibly recycled, ensuring valuable materials are kept out of landfill.

Devon’s library network has also embraced the initiative, with drop-off points now available at:

Totnes Library

Together, these community organisations are helping to reduce e-waste, support digital inclusion and make it easier for people across Devon to donate their unwanted tech responsibly.
