Uffculme Green Team

Uffculme Green Team covers the Parish of Uffculme. The focus of our attention is to engage the community in a range of sustainability issues. We have some core projects as well as ad hoc events and activities.

In 2014 a Green Day was our first ever event and from that the Green Team was born. Since then it has just kept growing.

We were the first village in Mid Devon to join the water bottle refill scheme and receive the Surfers Against Sewage (single use) Plastic Free Communities award.

During the pandemic years we started a surplus food collection and distribution network and in 2022 opened a Community Fridge and Larder hub, which has been a huge success and is popular across the whole community. We have a team of evening collectors and a team of morning hub volunteers.

We also run a lively, well-used monthly Repair Cafe.

Our winter 2022/2023 Warm Space helped people save fuel bills at home and input from Exeter Community Energy ensured people had access to good advice and home visits. It proved so popular that it transformed into a Summer Space in 2023 as regular visitors valued to social aspect – and free lunches and refreshments!

2023 also saw the installation of our Climate Action noticeboard in a prominent spot in the centre of the Parish.

Our key activities include:

  • Repair cafe
  • Uff Comm Fridge (community fridge and larder)
  • Warm Space / Summer Space
  • Litter picking
  • Shows, events, pop-ups, give-or-take and green days
  • Recycling (special collections such as Devon Contract Waste ‘recycle and raise’)
  • Wildlife group (also part of the Mid Devon Wildlife Warden Scheme)
