Ashburton Repair Café

Ashburton Repair Cafe aims to save resources – and money – by repairing household items (which would otherwise be thrown away). We’re up for a challenge! We’ll have a go at repairing clothes, household electrical items, sharpen tools, stick items back together and much more. We’ll glue, stick, tape, sew, sand and repair and check electrical goods.

We open on the first Saturday of the month, at St Andrew’s Church Hall between 10am and 12.30pm. Here you can bring in your items and watch them being repaired, or leave them with us. There’s a cafe as well. You can sit with our volunteer and watch or learn as your item’s repaired.

We have a workshop at the Old Umber Works on Chuley Road (near Tucker’s and Ashburton Wholefoods). That’s open most Wednesday afternoons. Check our website for up-to-date opening times. Drop off along your broken thingymagigs; collect items that have been repaired, or just pop in for a chat and a cuppa.

You can book items in, in advance, on our website here.

Recently, we repaired a 30-year-old Henry. When they heard about the plight of this Henry, Numatic, the maker, gave us a new motor. They’re proud of how long Henrys last, and that they can be repaired.

In the future, we hope to help people undertake straight-forward repairs themselves. It’ll all help reduce waste, and save money.

Come along and see us at the Church Hall, or our workshop on Chuley Road. Check the events page or our website for details.

Look out for updates here, on the calendar, and on Facebook and Instagram.

We hope to see you soon.
