Getting your hands dirty with Dr Compost!

On Saturday October 16th,  Sustainable Bishop and CAG Devon co-hosted a Dr Compost event with Devon’s own compost guru, Nicky Scott.  Set at the wonderful Bishopsteignton Community Allotments, the event was well attended with 20 people coming out on a cold and misty morning. Luckily the sun burnt off the mist and it turned into a beautiful day.  Nicky provided a fascinating talk about how to start and manage a healthy compost heap. He was able to answer a raft of questions from what to do about weed seeds to biodegradable packaging.  The morning was helped along with generous amounts of delicious homemade cake provided by Kate and Dawn from Sustainable Bishop. Proof once again that cake is the magic ingredient to any successful event!

CAG Devon is currently planning another composting event with Nicky Scott in Mid Devon later this year.  If you are interested in attending, make sure you are signed up to the CAG Devon newsletter.  and following us on Facebook for announcements.

We’ve pulled together a resource sheet with some useful composting resources and some of Nicky’s recommended reading. You can see it here.
