Topsham Library of Things
About us/who we are
The Topsham Library of Things (TLoT) is a community-run project that enables local residents to borrow useful household and leisure items instead of buying them. Operated by volunteers, it works in a similar way to a traditional library, but instead of lending books, it provides access to practical equipment that people may only need occasionally.
Members can sign up for a small annual fee, browse available items online, and then collect and return them during weekly sessions at Matthews Hall. The collection includes a wide range of objects such as DIY tools, gardening equipment, party supplies like catering equipment and lighting, and family items including travel cots and high chairs. Popular items borrowed so far include a carpet cleaner and a jet washer, demonstrating how the service supports everyday needs.
The main aim of the Topsham Library of Things is to promote a sharing culture within the community. By encouraging people to borrow rather than buy, it helps reduce waste, save money, and cut down on unnecessary consumption. Any income generated through membership or borrowing fees is reinvested into maintaining the service and purchasing additional items, helping the project grow while supporting a more sustainable, low-waste lifestyle for Topsham residents.
