Teign Valley Larder
Teign Valley Larder has been serving the residents of the Teign Valley since early May 2020. We provide a community larder with a stock of food, personal hygiene and household basics for those currently experiencing food insecurity or poverty. We also reduce food waste by functioning as an outlet for long-life but ‘out of date’ foodstuffs and surplus fresh produce from three local farms that supply eggs and organic vegetables.
In our first three months of operation we supplied over 3,000 items of food to people in need, and saved more than 80 kg of food otherwise destined for disposal. To date, we have been able to use Christow church porch as a temporary home, with larder boxes in three other Teign Valley villages (church porches or pubs). Going forward we are now seeking a more permanent home with an electricity supply for a fridge. We are setting ourselves up as a community interest company and will be seeking regular donations of food and cash from within the community for a sustainable future as sadly, we do not anticipate a decline in the need for help with obtaining adequate food supplies.
