About us

Our group was set up to run events and projects that will make our lovely town of Bradninch more sustainable, reduce waste, and become an even better community. Our members are active community members who want to make a difference to the lives of people in Bradninch.

What we do

We run a repair café every two months, and a highlight of 2019 was our popular ‘gin and swishing’ evening. We have also organised jumble trails and school uniform swaps.

Recent projects

In November 2020 we opened the Bradninch Community Food Shed, in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic. It started in an old outhouse just off Fore Street, but now occupies the foyer of Bradninch Baptist Church. This project is a way of distributing waste food from supermarkets and food businesses to the public. We take their waste or leftover food, collected by our dedicated team of volunteers, then place it on our shelves or in our fridge. It is then free for anyone to take and use.

This winter we started a Tree Nursery at Bradninch Allotments to help supply saplings for tree planting projects around the town. Our local Scout group helped plant the first lot of trees, and the Cubs will hunt out local tree seeds in Autumn to germinate and plant their new trees in the nursery next winter.

Future plans

We are running a Bradninch Jumble Trail in April, along with another Gin Swish event in June to help raise money for young people in our community. We have also planted wildflowers alongside footpaths in Bradninch, which hopefully will provide lots of colour and help pollinators to Keep Devon Buzzing!

Talk to us if you’re in or near Bradninch and you’d like to help. We have a team of volunteers who clean our shed and collect food from local supermarkets, so there are always things you can do to help. Let us know if you have a skill you’d like to share, can repair broken items or are an expert in an aspect of sustainability and would like to speak at a local event.
