Dawlish Against Plastic
Dawlish Against Plastic was formed in March 2018.
We cover the town council boundary area of Dawlish, which includes Dawlish Warren and parts of Holcombe and Cockwood. We also work with local schools in Exminster, Kenn and Kenford.
We organise regular beach and town cleans, take our information and sales stall to community events, organise environmentally themed competitions, and give presentations to local groups.
In 2019, we achieved Surfers Against Sewage ‘Plastic Free Community’ status for Dawlish. As part of this we worked with schools, local businesses and voluntary organisations to help them reduce their plastics use.
Our major project for 2020 was our first ‘Go-Green Fest’, a festival in Dawlish exploring all things sustainable, which we have had to postpone until 2022, due to Covid19. During the Jubilee weekend we held a hugely successful Turn the Tide festival, working with local groups and Devon-wide organisations. The event drew thousands of visitors and plans are already afoot for Turn the Tide 2023.
In addition to the eight volunteer members of our steering group, we have many others who help out at regular beach cleans. Everyone is welcome.
