SkillShare23: A Celebration of Communities in Action

Monday, 20 November 2023/CAG Devon updates, News, Story/Leah Nudds

Last Saturday we had our annual CAG Devon SkillShare and what a day it was. SkillShare23 unfolded as an inspiring day highlighting the collective commitment to local climate action. The strength of volunteering and coming together resonated throughout the day as we explored the Five Ways to wellbeing through community climate action.

A day filled with passion, energy, and learning!  SkillShare23 unfolded as a vibrant canvas of inspiration, community connection, and collective commitment to local climate action. The theme, “Creating a Climate for Wellbeing,” resonated throughout the day as people engaged in enriching activities and discussions.

A long-standing CAG Devon member, reflecting on the day, deemed it “the best SkillShare yet!” This echoed the collective feeling of the day, with positivity and a buzzing energy around the room.

We gained valuable insights from Devon Climate Emergency on the Devon Carbon Plan and Devon County Council on the Local Nature Recovery Strategy. The workshops covered various topics of climate action from connecting with nature with Wild About Devon and reducing single-use plastics with Exmouth Town Council to becoming community energy champions with ECOE and gleaning to combat food waste with Gleaning Devon, everyone embraced the opportunity to learn and share insights.

Networking sessions were not just about exchanging contact information, they were about forging connections that will lead to collaborative efforts in the future. Conversations flowed, ideas sparked, and the atmosphere was alive with the energy of like-minded individuals. The lunch was freshly prepared by ReRooted Tiverton surplus food café and offered a time to enjoy delicious food, connect, and chat.

The afternoon continued the momentum with diverse workshops. From the pollinator project workshop with Wild About Devon to the creative Mossy Carpet and discussions on being a voice for the River Exe with FORE, everyone immersed themselves in hands on, meaningful skill sharing.

What set SkillShare23 apart was not just the knowledge shared but the atmosphere surrounding the event, with people saying they came away feeling re-energised and full of ideas. It served as a source of inspiration, particularly when the challenges of climate action can, at times, lead to a loss of momentum.

As SkillShare23 ended, the collective feeling was one of accomplishment and shared purpose. Action plans were formed, connections solidified, and a collective commitment to climate action resonated around the room. SkillShare23 was a testament to the resilience and creativity of community-driven climate action.

Stay tuned for the SkillShare23 video— capturing the essence of the day. Thank you to everyone who contributed to making SkillShare23 a brilliant day. We look forward to seeing the action take place and can’t wait for SkillShare24.  Get Sat 9th Nov 2024 in the diary now!
