Celebrating Volunteers’ Week 2025

Wednesday, 4 June 2025/Impact, News/Molly Turner

As we mark Volunteers’ Week from 2nd – 8th June 2025, it’s time to give thanks to all the incredible individuals who give their time, energy, and passion to make a difference in their local communities.

From community fridges to repair cafés, sustainability projects to community gardens, volunteers of community action groups are the driving force behind positive change.

Over the past year, CAG (Community Action Groups) network volunteers have given over 40,000 hours of their time to their communities. That’s tens of thousands of hours filled with dedication, passion, and care – supporting projects, driving environmental change, and strengthening local resilience.

We reach out to CAG network volunteers annually, inviting them to share their experiences, motivations, and the impact of their efforts. The thoughtful feedback, and reflections we received this year were truly inspiring – thank you for sharing! This year’s survey showed that volunteering is about much more than giving time. It’s about building connections, fostering personal growth, and creating a better world together.

Volunteers often feel more rooted in their communities, build meaningful friendships, and experience real joy in giving back. Many also develop new skills, boost their confidence, and adopt more sustainable habits around repair, reuse, waste reduction, and climate action. We received some heartwarming quotes that illustrate the value of volunteering in a CAG Devon group. The quotes link to the Five Ways to Wellbeing – connect, be active, take notice, keep learning, and give…

“Met some amazing friends who have honestly helped me socially and mentally with great advice and support.”

“Being in the soothing environment of the village pond area on a Sunday morning and spending time in the company of like-minded people who exude a wonderful positive vibe.”

“I really enjoy helping, interacting, and learning from others. I feel incredibly fulfilled by having the opportunity to use and share my skills to help prevent the needless disposal of perfectly repairable items.”

We want to finish by expressing our deep gratitude to every volunteer who gives their time and effort to their community action group. Your dedication strengthens communities, protects our environment, and brings people together. Whether you’re a long-term volunteer or considering getting started in your volunteer journey, know that every action big or small helps build a more sustainable future.
