Bovey Repair Cafe Upskills
In a world of throwaway culture, it’s uplifting to see communities coming together to challenge the status quo. Recently, our Project Officer Leah had the privilege of visiting Bovey Repair Café. Just days prior, three dedicated volunteers had completed their PAT testing training, provided by CAG Devon.
The atmosphere at the Repair Cafe was a buzz with activity, a testament to the passion of its volunteers. Skilled repairers assessed and fixed various items, with an emphasis on ensuring electrical safety through PAT testing. It was great to see seemingly discarded items found a new lease on life, all thanks to the expertise of these individuals.
The vibrant atmosphere underscores the value of knowledge-sharing within communities. It’s not just about fixing broken items; it’s about passing on invaluable skills and fostering a sense of collective responsibility for our future. The volunteers at Bovey Repair Cafe are proof that when people come together, they can make a real difference.
Electricals PAT testing is a vital part of repair cafe activity, and volunteers said they felt more confident having completed the course and demonstrated their competence. These skills empower them to contribute meaningfully to their community, not only by preventing items from ending up in landfills but also by safeguarding the well-being of those who use these repaired items.
The Repair Cafe movement is not just about fixing things; it’s about fixing our relationship with the environment. It transforms our throwaway culture into one that values sustainability and resourcefulness. Repair cafes are microcosms of positive change, creating interconnected spaces where individuals share their knowledge and expertise to build a more sustainable future.
CAG Devon will be funding more PAT testing courses in the upcoming autumn season. If you’re part of a CAG Repair Cafe and you’d like to take advantage of this opportunity to enhance your volunteers’ skills, don’t hesitate to get in touch.
