The Plot - Princetown Community Garden
About us
The Plot is managed by Dartmoor Forest Parish Council. We are a group of volunteers working together to create a Community Garden for the benefit of the whole community. The Plot is open to anyone, and all are welcome, whether you wish to help weeding, learn a bit about gardening, grow some fruit and veg, or just come for a chat and good company. We invite both experts and amateurs, and those with or without finances.
Our long-term aim is to grow vegetables, fruit, herbs and so on to share amongst the village. We hope it will further become a location in the community where people can relax and chat (great for those that are lonely or don’t have a garden of their own). To this end, we also have a lawned area with picnic benches.
All our spare produce from The Plot is distributed appropriately and freely throughout the community.
The Plot ethos is to encourage everyone to grow what they want and how they want. To this end, we have a dead hedge, no-dig plots, ‘three sisters’ planting, a Hugelkultur bed, a bog garden and a wildflower garden.
Now in our third year, last year The Plot received a runners-up award from the RHS as Community Garden of the Year, for which we are inordinately proud.
Whilst our volunteers are on a winter break from gardening right now – even sturdy Princetown stalwarts don’t weed in the snow! – once Spring appears we will be reinstating our weekly sessions, usually on a Wednesday afternoon or/and on a Saturday morning.
