SUMMARY:Community Action for Rewilding
DESCRIPTION:This event is free to attend and open to all volunteers of groups in the CAG Devon network\, and members of Devon Rewilding Network.  \nAbout the event:  \nCAG Devon is teaming up with the Devon Rewilding Network for a joint learning day focused on strengthening community involvement in rewilding and nature recovery. \nThe day includes: \n\nA morning of short talks (with Q&A) at Umberleigh Village Hall\, showcasing projects putting nature and community at the heart of their work.\nAn afternoon visit to Luckymoor Rewilding\, with landowners Pete and Jane Kelly\, to see nature recovery in action\, get hands-on with a practical activity\, and explore opportunities for nearby land to be rewilded as a community.\n\nThroughout the day\, we’ll look at different models for community‑led nature recovery – from land‑purchase approaches (including CICs)\, to working with town and parish councils\, plus wider ways to empower local people to protect and restore nature. \nThe day offers a great opportunity to connect\, learn and spark new ideas for your own projects\, and support locally driven nature recovery across Devon. \n\nWhat to expect/Timetable: \nMorning session: Umberleigh Village Hall\n \nArrivals: from 9:30am\nVenue: Umberleigh Village Hall\, EX37 9AA\n \n10:00 am – 12.30 pm – Morning talks \nYou’ll hear from: \n\nAndy Bell – North Devon Biosphere Communities Project\nNick/Claire Withers – Sustainable Chulmleigh\nLawrence Simanowitz – Wood Could Should CIC\nFranny Armstrong – Wild Tiverton CIC\n\nTea/coffee will be available during a mid-morning break. \n12.30 pm – 13.15 pm – Lunch and Travel \n\nPlease bring a packed lunch. \nTravel to Luckymoor Rewilding (10 minutes by car\, car sharing encouraged)\n\n\nAfternoon session: Luckymoor Rewilding \n13.15 pm –14.00 pm – Site tour (with landowners Pete & Jane Kelly)\nIncluding discussion around opportunities for community‑driven rewilding\, building on ideas from the morning session.  \n14.00 pm –14.45 pm – Optional practical Activity\nA hands-on tree‑guard removal session to connect with the land and each other through shared action.\n\n14:45 pm – 15:00 pm — Return to Umberleigh Village Hall\n\nPlease note: the visit to Luckymoor will involve some uneven ground and slopes\, appropriate footwear (walking boots or wellies) recommended. \n\nGetting there: \nUmberleigh Village Hall: \nAddress: Umberleigh Village Hall\, Umberleigh\, EX37 9AA\nGoogle maps link \nUmberleigh Village Hall is located on the A377 beside Umberleigh Railway Station\, making it easily accessible by road and by train from Barnstaple\, Exeter\, South Molton and Torrington. \nLuckymoor Rewilding: \nAddress: Luckymoor Rewilding\, Yarnscombe EX31 3NF\n(Postcode for guidance only – see instructions below) \nLuckymoor is located to the East of Luckaborough Glamping.
