SUMMARY:Make a Bird Box For National Nest Box Week
DESCRIPTION:For National Nest Box Week join us for a FREE workshop on Friday 21st February at Endecott House\, Chagford and make a bird box to install in the parishes of Chagford and Moretonhampstead. \nMany of us are aware of how vital it is to feed our garden birds\, but it’s also just as important that they have a suitable shelter and site for breeding. With natural habitats such as trees and hedgerows being lost to development\, some of our garden birds struggle to find a safe shelter to rear their young. With the nesting season not that far away\, our garden birds will be starting to prepare for their busiest time of year. \nWith kind thanks to Bradfords Moretonhampstead for generously donating the materials we will making as many bird boxes as possible to install in the parishes of Chagford and Moreton. Families and children are welcome to come and make a bird box for their garden as well as boxes to be installed in the community spaces. \nThis FREE event runs from 11am-4pm and is a perfect half term activity for children and families. Please book a ticket for the time you would like to attend so that we can accommodate you\, one ticket per family. Tea\, coffee\, squash and biscuits will be provided. \nPlease wear suitable clothing for working in and stout footwear. Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult.

During these sessions the funder will tell you about the grant programmes they run\, and you will have an opportunity to ask questions. \nThe Naturesave Trust – Thursday 20th March (1:15 pm – 2:15 pm) \nThe Naturesave Trust was set up in 1995\, to fund environmental and conservation projects throughout the UK. The Trust obtains 100% of its funds from the premiums generated by Naturesave Insurance\, the UK’s leading ethical insurance provider. \nOver many years the Naturesave Trust has provided a wide variety of grants mainly to small grassroots organisations that really make a difference but often struggle to find funding. The areas of funding include nature conservation (improving outcomes for our native flora and fauna)\, sustainable communities (community growing projects to organisations specialising in recycling and repair) and renewable Energy. \nThe Trust operates funding windows each year to help us manage demand and make a fair assessment of the applications we receive. The Trust conducts three funding windows per year (January to February\, May to June\, and September to October). \nPlease check the funder’s eligibility criteria or guidelines before booking to ensure the session is relevant to your group – click here. \nPlease be aware that this is an event just for groups from Devon.  \nThis is an online event and will be hosted on Zoom\, so please make sure you have Zoom downloaded. \nSign up here.

SUMMARY:Free Community Screening of Six Inches of Soil with Q&A
DESCRIPTION:Join us at in the Stag Suite at the White Hart Hotel\, Moretonhampstead on Thursday 27th March for a FREE community screening of Six Inches of Soil followed by Q&A. \nThis film follows a year in the lives of three remarkable young British farmers\, as they try to change the way they grow food and farm livestock – moving away from industrial monoculture into more “regenerative” approaches. Striving to build successful businesses\, they meet diverse experts: chefs\, entrepreneurs and biologists\, all committed to a more sustainable and healthier system of agriculture than large-scale industrial farming. Through their struggles to produce better food\, in a healthier way\, this engrossing film shows what it is like to work with the land in this imaginative\, hopeful way – and although it’s not easy\, the rewards are sometimes remarkable. \nThe screening will start at 7pm so make sure you arrive in plenty of time to get yourself a drink from the bar before you get seated! After the screening we will have a brief intermission before holding a Q&A with local farmers\, growers and advocates. \nWith huge thanks to the White Hart Hotel and We Are Devon Community Foundation. \nBooking essential as spaces are limited.

SUMMARY:Great Big Green Week Bio-blitz
DESCRIPTION:As part of our Eco Fair\, we are running a bio-blitz within the grounds of our local Church. \nMeeting at the Eco Fair in The Charter Hall\, we aim to leave at approximately 10am and walk up to All Saints Parish Church. It’s not a long walk but it is up hill and we may well find that there are many wild flowers to look at along the way as we follow a wild flower trail. \nThe group will be supported by a member of the Devon Wildlife Trust Team as well as members of Wild Oke. Once within the grounds of All Saints\, you will be given resources to help you identify plants\, lichens\, mosses\, trees\, birds\, insects etc as well as looking to see what mammals left their marks overnight in the footprint tunnels. Stay for as long or short as suits you. \nResults of your investigations will be fed back to All Saints and will provide a baseline for future ecological surveys. \nBring water\, a hat and sun cream!
