SUMMARY:Make a Bird Box For National Nest Box Week
DESCRIPTION:For National Nest Box Week join us for a FREE workshop on Friday 21st February at Endecott House\, Chagford and make a bird box to install in the parishes of Chagford and Moretonhampstead. \nMany of us are aware of how vital it is to feed our garden birds\, but it’s also just as important that they have a suitable shelter and site for breeding. With natural habitats such as trees and hedgerows being lost to development\, some of our garden birds struggle to find a safe shelter to rear their young. With the nesting season not that far away\, our garden birds will be starting to prepare for their busiest time of year. \nWith kind thanks to Bradfords Moretonhampstead for generously donating the materials we will making as many bird boxes as possible to install in the parishes of Chagford and Moreton. Families and children are welcome to come and make a bird box for their garden as well as boxes to be installed in the community spaces. \nThis FREE event runs from 11am-4pm and is a perfect half term activity for children and families. Please book a ticket for the time you would like to attend so that we can accommodate you\, one ticket per family. Tea\, coffee\, squash and biscuits will be provided. \nPlease wear suitable clothing for working in and stout footwear. Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult.

SUMMARY:Free Community Screening of Six Inches of Soil with Q&A
DESCRIPTION:Join us at in the Stag Suite at the White Hart Hotel\, Moretonhampstead on Thursday 27th March for a FREE community screening of Six Inches of Soil followed by Q&A. \nThis film follows a year in the lives of three remarkable young British farmers\, as they try to change the way they grow food and farm livestock – moving away from industrial monoculture into more “regenerative” approaches. Striving to build successful businesses\, they meet diverse experts: chefs\, entrepreneurs and biologists\, all committed to a more sustainable and healthier system of agriculture than large-scale industrial farming. Through their struggles to produce better food\, in a healthier way\, this engrossing film shows what it is like to work with the land in this imaginative\, hopeful way – and although it’s not easy\, the rewards are sometimes remarkable. \nThe screening will start at 7pm so make sure you arrive in plenty of time to get yourself a drink from the bar before you get seated! After the screening we will have a brief intermission before holding a Q&A with local farmers\, growers and advocates. \nWith huge thanks to the White Hart Hotel and We Are Devon Community Foundation. \nBooking essential as spaces are limited.

SUMMARY:Chudfix Repair Cafe
DESCRIPTION:Repair Cafés are community events which match people with broken or damaged household items with skilled volunteers who like fixing things. It brings people together to support each other to share their time and skills in a fun\, interesting and sociable way. And there is always amazing cake! \nWhat can you bring to a repair café?\n• Small electrical items (no microwaves please!)\n• Computers\, laptops\n• Bikes & scooters\n• Clothes & textiles that need repairing (no alterations please)\n• Toys\n• Wooden items\n• Tools to be sharpened\n• Miscellaneous items …we have several fixers who can turn their hand to most things\n• And we are always happy to provide some advice.

SUMMARY:FREE bat analysis workshop for farmers and community groups
DESCRIPTION:Bat Sound analysis and Greater Horseshoe Bat Walk \nFriday 16 May\, Gappah Farm\, Chudleigh\, TQ13 0AQ \nstarting at 17:00pm \nTeign Valley Facilitation Fund and Bat Conservation Trust are hosting the event at Gappah Farm – come to learn more about the bats in our area and to go searching for them at dusk! \nThe first half of this session will provide an introduction to bat call analysis using sound analysis software. We will use Wildlife Acoustics Kaleidoscope software as this can be downloaded free of charge\, but the analysis techniques covered will be applicable to a range of different programs. As well as species ID we will look at the links between species’ ecology and call characteristics. Attendees will be given a library of recordings of bat calls to work through which they can keep afterwards for their own use. \nGappah Farm is right next to a maternity roost of Greater Horseshoe Bats so we will very likely see\, or at least hear them\, on our walk. \nWe will walk around Gappah Farm with the experts when the bats come out\, and if you want to bring a UV torch to look for any Brown Hairstreak caterpillars then please do so! \nFood will be provided\, please advise us of any dietary requirements when you book your place.
