SUMMARY:Uffculme Wildlife Pond Maintenance - Community Gardening
DESCRIPTION:All welcome to help with the ‘light touch’ maintenance of Uffculme’s Wildlife Pond. Tasks suitable for all abilities\, including monitoring and recording our flora\, fauna and fungi finds in and around this lovely ‘wild for wildlife’ pond and surrounds. We’re also keeping a stretch of the main road in central Uffculme lightly maintained so that wildflowers can thrive and be enjoyed – so if the ‘Ponderers’ are not at the pond\, they’ll have become the ‘Wildflower Warriors’ and can be found along Commercial Road in the stretch between College Green and Highland Terrace junction. SUMMARY:Community Energy Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Exploring Community Energy Opportunities in Devon \nDalwood Village Hall 22nd September 2026 from 18:00 – 20:30 hrs. \nAre you part of a community group interested in reducing energy costs\, tackling climate change\, or creating a more resilient local future? \nJoin us for an inspiring and practical workshop exploring Community Energy and how local communities can take meaningful action with our guest speaker: Fuad Al-Tawil \nWe are delighted to welcome Fuad Al-Tawil from Action on Climate in Teignbridge (ACT)\, who brings over 11 years of experience developing successful community energy projects. Fuad was instrumental in establishing Teign Energy Communities\, a Community Benefit Society that has helped build a thriving network of community energy initiatives across Devon. He will share the lessons learned\, practical experience\, and expertise gained from working alongside community groups throughout the region. \nWhat will we explore? \nCommunity Energy isn’t just about installing solar panels or renewable technologies. Successful projects begin by asking important questions: \n\nWhat is our community trying to achieve?\nAre our priorities tackling climate change\, reducing dependence on fossil fuels\, addressing fuel poverty\, or improving energy justice?\nShould we focus first on reducing energy demand through retrofit and efficiency before investing in renewable generation?\n\nMore information and registration for the event here.

SUMMARY:West Devon Wildlife Warden Scheme: Wildlife Meadow Maintenance in Tavistock
DESCRIPTION:Join West Devon Wildlife Wardens & ParkLife SW to maintain the new wildlife meadows in Tavistock created with volunteers in April this year. \nThis is a wonderful chance to dive in\, work hands-on\, and gain real experience maintaining and improving habitats. \nIn this session\, we will rake and remove the cuttings and scarify the area to break up the outer surface of the soil. This will prepare the site for us to sow Yellow Rattle (Rhinanthus minor) seeds recently harvested from Hope Wood\, the new community woodland and nature recovery site at South Brent. \nBy sowing Yellow Rattle (Rhinanthus minor)\, often known as the ‘meadow maker’\, into the developing meadow\, we can help shift the balance away from vigorous grasses and towards a more varied mix of wildflowers. As it grows\, Yellow Rattle attaches to nearby grass roots and reduces their growth\, opening up gaps in the sward and allowing more light to reach the soil. Over time\, this creates better conditions for wildflower seeds to germinate and spread\, helping the meadow become richer\, more colourful and more valuable for bees\, butterflies and other wildlife. \nThis is one of multiple wildflower meadows being created and managed to help increase biodiversity in Tavistock. Once established\, they will add life and colour to the town.
