Repair Cafés across Devon are joining together to once again take part in The Big Fix, but this time it’s gone national! Hundreds of expert menders, electricians, sewing experts and tech repairers will take part in Repair Cafés across the UK on Saturday 15 February to celebrate the work they do and encourage people in their communities to fix, not throw.
Expert, and often specialist, volunteers donate their time once a month to help members of their local community fix broken household objects. Everything from sewing, electrical items, furniture repairs and mechanical issues can be covered for a small donation towards the costs of the Repair Café. Items which people may not be able to afford to get fixed or not sure how to do it themselves are brought back to life and saved from the bin.
Coordinated by Devon County Council, The Big Fix 2020 will see up to 109 Repair Cafés up and down the country held simultaneously in what will be the UK’s first nationwide Repair Café. It follows on from the success of last years Big Fix event, where Devon’s Repair Cafés came together and broke the record for the number of items fixed in one sitting – a whopping 268!
So put the 15 February in your diary and go to your local repair café to take part in this world first! So far more than 75 repair cafes have signed up, so there is bound to be one local to you. Click here for the latest updates.
