TACT started out as Sustainable Villages in 2008 in the village of Sampford Peverell and is part of the Transition Network Initiative. It’s name changed to Tiverton Area Communities Transition to represent links with Tiverton and the surrounding towns and villiages. Transition Network’s role is to inspire, encourage, connect, support and train communities to create initiatives that build resilience and reduce CO2 emissions.
The local initiative has quickly expanded to involve people in the neighbouring villages of Uffculme, Halberton, Holcombe Rogus, Uplowman, Hockworthy, Burlescombe, Huntsham and Clayhanger.
Their focus is to raise awareness in our communities about the challenges arising from climate change and peak oil and encourage local initiatives to meet those challenges.
They have a number of sub groups involved in a range of activities including; Give or Take events to promote re-use, the Tiverton Repair Café, Community Bee Keeping, the Apple Project, Uffculme Green Team, the Soil and Compost group, plus lots more.
